Build-A-Bear Workshop is a children’s paradise where they can make and customize their stuffed animals on the spot. The days of picking out a factory made stuffed animal are long gone as Build-A-Bear puts the power in its customers’ hands. One mom, however, has had enough with the fluff filling and accessories.
Sarah Rawsthorne, a mom from England, took to Facebook to detail her Build-A-Bear frustrations. Her nine-year-old daughter Ruby is obsessed with building her own stuffed animals. Each one has an extensive collection of accessories. Sarah says, “I can confirm that there are more shoes for bears in my house than there are for humans. The Bears have a better wardrobe than myself, and no, their bum never gets too big for their outfits, the smug little bears.”
In Sarah’s letter, she details the slow process which hooked Ruby to the store. She started by making a bear for her then-unborn daughter and could not believe how amazing the entire experience was. Once Ruby was born, she was showered with Build-A-Bear animals for birthdays and good grades. As she got older, Ruby became more interested in dressing her bears with a full wardrobe of accessories. In total, she has collected around 20 toys from Build-A-Bear.
After ten years, Sarah came to a breaking point where the store makes her want to “fake my own death.” She sarcastically asks Build-A-Bear for “an area of the store we can sit and stare at a plain white wall, perhaps even offer us a refreshment, conversation that isn’t about a great new smell to shove in the bears bum.”
Many have responded positively to the post, but some have called Sarah out for being a bad parent. Build-A-Bear has not reached out to her, but Sarah hopes they will. “Surprisingly, Build-A-Bear haven’t contacted me at all. I am still waiting for my lifetime ban; fingers crossed it’s in the post.”
