The long standing TV show ‘Neighbours’ was first broadcast in March 1985, and ever since has been a firm favourite with fans across the globe.

The show initially ran for 4 months in the 80s, before being cancelled. It was then picked up by a different network in Australia and that is when the magic of ‘Neighbours’ really began.

Although filmed and produced in Australia, ‘Neighbours’ proved to be most popular in the United Kingdom. It was first broadcast on BBC1 at lunchtime, but was moved to an evening slot after the daughter of a BBC1 producer complained that she kept missing the show due to being at school. Once the show moved to the evening slot, ‘Neighbours’ began to attract large audiences. In fact, in 1991 the average viewership for the show was a staggering 21 million!

The TV show is focused upon the people living on Ramsay Street in Melbourne, Australia. The show started off with a humble beginning – just three families, living on the street – the Ramsays, the Robinsons and the Clarkes. The initial episodes focused on the rivalry between the Ramsay and Robinson families. Since then the street has expanded to include many new faces, who quickly become incredible assets to the show.

Over the years the show has been a huge stepping stone in launching many careers. Kylie Minogue and Jason Donovan made their first acting appearances on ‘Neighbours’ and since then have gone on to launch successful singing careers. Other celebrities that started off on ‘Neighbours’ include, Delta Goodrem, Natalie Imbruglia and Miley Cyrus’ gorgeous beau, Liam Hemsworth.

Today the show has produced over 7000 episodes, and is still a firm favorite with fans. However, many actors have come and gone – can you recognize what the stars look like today? Some of their transformations are incredible.
