Rescue dogs – it’s a touchy subject, to say the very least, and especially applies when adopting one is concerned. This is because studies have shown that many rescue dogs have been through the most traumatic of pasts and a result, it has affected their behavior considerably. Dog abuse can push many canines over the edge, make them lack trust in humans and act violently in the long term.
There are also dogs who are considered to be more dangerous than others. While most domesticated dogs don’t pose any significant threat to their owners, unexpected attacks on them and even their kids are unfortunately a possibility that isn’t out of the ordinary. This can apply more often to certain breeds such as Dobermans or Pitbulls. These breeds are more vulnerable to the long-term effects of abuse and can translate that trauma into violent behavior.
So when Catherine Svilicic adopted a dog, she was aware of the reputation of its breed as a Doberman. However, she had faith that the dog would not be a threat to her family. She was sure that her 17 month old child would be safe around such a creature. Catherine wanted her little girl Charlotte to have a faithful companion by her side from as early as she could remember. She wanted her to be able to share her experiences with a pet dog.
But on one fateful afternoon, the dog and toddler were in the garden. Catherine was convinced that the two could play together peacefully and that nothing terrible would happen to her baby. Suddenly, out of the blue, something happened that completely caught everyone by surprise. However, when mother Catherine looked closer at the events that transpired, she realized that something so strange and out of ordinary happened, that she could never have anticipated such an incident.
